HCSF/HCSV Russian Ridge Preserve Wildflower HikeHCSF/HCSV Russian Ridge Preserve Wildflower Hike

Please join us for a 5-6 mile moderate difficulty hike in Russian Ridge Open Space Preserve to see the late spring wildflowers and enjoy great views over the foothills rolling down toward the sea. The hike also includes a short jaunt through a majestic stretch of large live oaks on the Ancient Oaks Trail.

Diverse plant communities, miles of forest edge, and abundant springs make Russian Ridge an outstanding habitat for wildlife, including many raptors (red-tailed hawks, turkey vultures, Cooper's hawks, sharp-shinned hawks, and golden eagles have all been seen there) and coyotes too. In the spring, the preserve explodes with color as the native wildflowers put on a showy display. By May and June, gumweed, mules ears, farewell-to-spring, and brodiaea bloom.
