Lorraine HaritonWhy Inclusion is Not Optional: Championing Gender Equality Across Organizations

A Discussion with Lorraine Hariton 'HBS 82, CEO of Catalyst

The Harvard Club of San Francisco is proud to host a discussion with Lorraine Hariton, HBS ’82, Chief Executive Officer of Catalyst, renowned research, education, and advocacy organization committed to building a more equitable, inclusive, and fulfilling workplace for women. Catalyst is supported by more than 100 Fortune 500 corporations and has been championing equality for nearly 60 years.

If you are a woman in business, science, academia, or government, you probably aren’t surprised that women earn 60% of all master’s degrees in the US or control or influence more than 70% of consumer spending. Yet only about 5% of CEOs in corporate America are women. Only 26.5% of executives and only about 21% of board seats are held by women in the S&P 500. For women of color, the numbers are even more dismal.

Lorraine Hariton runs an organization dedicated to countering this trend, and that champions pay equality, fighting conscious and unconscious bias, and works with companies to take tangible actions that will embed inclusivity to help to empower women in their careers.

At the Market Street, San Francisco headquarters of solar pioneer Sunrun, we will host a fireside chat with Lorraine, who has been a pioneer as one of the first female CEOs of a Silicon Valley tech company, appointed by President Obama to serve as Special Representative of Commercial and Business affairs at the US Department of State, and recently served as head of global partnerships for the New York Academy of Sciences. She’s just getting started.

The discussion, moderated by Samantha Ealy, founder of Bo$$Talk and 2019 graduate of Stanford Graduate School of Business, will cover inclusion, empowerment, and what both women and men can as individuals can do to champion equality in the workplace. Bring your questions!

Spread the word! We welcome friends of the Harvard Club and anyone interested in diversity in organizations.
