Speaker Bios

Marco Iansiti   Marco Iansiti

David Sarnoff Professor of Business Administration

Marco Iansiti, David Sarnoff Professor of Business Administration, heads the Technology and Operations Management Unit and the Digital Initiative at HBS.

Professor Iansiti is an expert on digital innovation and transformation, with a special focus on strategy, business models, and new product development in high technology industries. His research studied innovation and operations in both firms and firm networks. He examined the strategy, business models, and innovation processes of a variety of organizations including Microsoft, Facebook, IBM, Hewlett Packard, Wal*Mart, AT&T, Dell, Amazon, and Google, among many others. He is the author or coauthor of more than 100 articles, papers, book chapters, cases, and notes, including "The Ecology of Strategy" (with R. Levien) and "Digital Ubiquity" (with K. Lakhani) which were published in the Harvard Business Review. His second book The Keystone Advantage: What the New Dynamics of Business Ecosystems Mean for Strategy, Innovation, and Sustainability (also with R. Levien), published in August 2004 by HBS Press, was selected as one of the 10 best business books of the year by Strategy and Business. His latest book One Strategy: Organization, Planning, and Decision Making (Wiley Press, 2010) was written with Steven Sinofsky.

Professor Iansiti taught extensively in both Executive Education and MBA programs and is the creator of several courses, including "Managing Product Development," "Starting New Ventures" (with HBS Professor Myra Hart), "Digital Innovation and Transformation" (with Professor Karim Lakhani), and "Competing with Business Analytics and Big Data."

Professor Iansiti advises a variety of Fortune 500 companies with a focus on digital strategies and transformation. Iansiti is the Chairman of the board of directors of Keystone Strategy Inc., a consulting firm he co-founded. Iansiti was also an original co-founder and member of the board of Model N Inc. (NASDAQ: MODN). Iansiti currently also serves on the boards of AltX, Module Q, and Decibel. AltX is a data platform and marketplace for alternative investments; ModuleQ is a Personal Resource Management application, and Decibel is a stealth mode start-up in the sports space.
 

 

Karim R. Lakhani

Charles Edward Wilson Professor of Business Administration

Karim R. Lakhani is the Charles E. Wilson Professor of Business Administration and the Dorothy and Michael Hintze Fellow at the Harvard Business School. He is the founder and co-director of the Laboratory for Innovation Science at Harvard, the principal investigator of the NASA Tournament Laboratory at the Harvard Institute for Quantitative Social Science, and the faculty co-founder of the Harvard Business School Digital Initiative. He specializes in technology management and innovation. His research examines crowd-based innovation models and the digital transformation of companies and industries. Lakhani is known for his pioneering scholarship on how communities and contests can be designed and managed to achieve innovative outcomes. He has partnered with NASA, Topcoder, and the Harvard Medical School to conduct field experiments on the design of crowd innovation programs. His research on digital transformation has shown the importance of data and analytics as drivers of business and operating model transformation and source of competitive advantage. He serves on the Board of Directors of Mozilla Corporation and Local Motors.

Dan Beck

Dan Beck is a financial professional at AXA Advisors in the San Francisco office. He has over ten years of financial services experience. Previously, from 2011 to 2015 he managed Beck Investment Partners, a fundamental value investment partnership. Prior finance experience includes work at Parnassus Investments, State Street Bank, and Starwood Capital Group. Before starting his finance career he spent seven years as a Navy officer, including three deployments to the Persian Gulf on a destroyer and cruiser. He is a CFA Charterholder, teaches in the CFA Society of San Francisco review curriculum as well as a graduate class in behavioral finance at the University of San Francisco, and is Series 7 and 66 licensed. Dan holds an MBA from Harvard Business School, an MA in History from the University of Maryland College Park, and a BS (with honors and with distinction) from the United States Naval Academy.


Event Organizer and 2020 1HNVC Chair

Maya Krish  

Maya Krish

Maya Krish is the Director of Entrepreneurship for the HBS Association of Northern California and serves as Chair of the 2020 1HNVC.  She is responsible for the Club's programming, including growing its entrepreneurial arm and partner relations.  This past year, Maya chaired a highly successful 1HNVC culminating at Microsoft, Sunnyvale in February 2019.  Maya started working with HBSANC as the Director of StartUp Partners in 2017 and previously founded two startups in the finance and health and wellness industries. She also has worked in healthcare as an executive with P&L accountability for Kaiser Permanente. This entailed driving strategic and operational change within one of the nation's largest medical centers accounting for 1% of the nation’s patients. Maya holds a MS in Health Policy and Management from Harvard, and Bachelors degrees in Molecular Biology and Economics from U.C. Berkeley.
