Politics and the Media: The 2020 Challenge

Our panelists are leading Bay Area observers of our country’s politics, the impact of change in the media industry, and the spread of disinformation through the internet and social media.
 

Come join us for an insightful discussion of Politics 2020. Here are our panelists who will address these critical issues:
 

		John Diaz, the editorial page editor of the San Francisco Chronicle, will serve as panelist and moderator of the discussion. He has won numerous state and national awards during his tenure with the Chronicle, and has served as a juror for the Pulitzer Prizes in 2001 and 2002.
		Carla Marinucci is senior writer for POLITICO’s California Playbook. She has consistently been named one of California’s leading political writers, and for the last two years has been honored as the state’s top digital influencer in political reporting. She has covered six presidential elections and seven California gubernatorial elections since 1996, including the historic recall with Arnold Schwarzenegger. In 2013, she was honored by the Society of Professional Journalists with a lifetime achievement award for her coverage of California politics.
		James Lance Taylor is Professor of Politics at the University of San Francisco. He is a former Chair of the Department of Politics at USF and Faculty Coordinator of its African American Studies Program. He is also a former President of the National Conference of Black Political Scientists, an organization of African American, African, and Afro Caribbean political scientists in the United States. He serves as a political commentator on San Francisco, U.S. national, California, and U.S. Black politics on behalf of USF and appears regularly on San Francisco TV news media.

We’ll gather at 6:00 p.m. for light snacks in the lobby of Delancey Street Foundation’s screening room theater at 600 The Embarcadero, San Francisco. Easy to find, accessible to public transportation on any Muni line headed south toward the Giants Oracle ballpark which you can board at the Embarcadero Station and get off at the Brannan Street stop. Or from BART at the Embarcadero Station, on a nice day, it’s a 20-minute stroll along the Embarcadero, or a 15-minute walk from CalTrain. The panel discussion will begin at 6:30.
