The Harvard Reading Group will discuss Katherine Anne Porter's powerful account of love and death during the Spanish Flu pandemic in 1918, "Pale Horse, Pale Rider" on May 3. A mystical story of the narrow ledge between life and death, set at the time of the 1918 Spanish flu epidemic, this short novel is a story of two doomed lovers caught up in the gears of world war and a deadly virus. Porter's tale manages to be romantic and bitter all at once.
