War Memorial Opera House
301 Van Ness Avenue, Civic Center

Sunday, December 14.
6 p.m. Reception, 7.p.m. Performance

The Harvard and University of Chicago Clubs once again celebrate a gala “Family Night” performance of San Francisco Ballet’s Nutcracker this holiday season. We reserved fabulous seats in the Premium Dress Circle at a special group discount and Extra Value Night price. Our guests enjoy special Family Night treats including gifts for the first 500 children, free milk and cookies during intermission and photo ops with costumed Nutcracker performers (Lobby, 6 p.m. for 30 minutes.). A Sugar Plum Fairy world of holiday magic awaits inside the resplendent Opera House in a wonderland of supersized candy, teddy bears, toy solders and such things that are usually visible only to young people nodding off to sleep.

NOTE: Due to Opera Hose renovations, we changed the location of our pre-performance Meet and Greet. Join us early for a relaxed and luxurious no-host Meet and Greet, 4 to 6+ p.m. in the fabulous Jardinière restaurant at 300 Grove Street (between Franklin and Gough), around the corner from the War Memorial Opera House. Jardinière is a 4 star San Francisco culinary icon. Zagat summarizes: “Civic Center ticket-holders never miss a chance for a pre-show dinner or nightcap at chef Traci des Jardins' swanky Hayes Valley celebration spot where exquisite French-Californian food, an excellent wine cellar and über-attentive service make for a true fine-dining experience … the lounge menu and Monday night prix fixes are great buys.”

We have a limited number of reserved tables (see Harvard and University of Chicago reserved signs) in the Jardinière Lounge but, of course, our guests may mingle throughout the Lounge and bar area. The Lounge Menu offers substantial appetizers and beverages. Attendees may also make a full dinner reservation in the Jardinière restaurant starting at 4 p.m. and then join us after dinner in the Lounge for our Meet and Greet. Jardinière recommends diners allow 1.5- 2 hours for a three course meal. Jardinière offers $15 Valet parking for the evening. The Performing Arts Garage at 360 Grove offers self-parking a $15 .for the evening as well. (See links below)

The Opera House will offer Lobby festivities at 6- 6:30 p.m., including, a gift for the first 500 kids entering the lobby, photo ops with costumed Nutcracker characters, and sometimes “snow” falling on the Opera House steps as guests arrive. Free milk and cookies will be offered to children during Intermission.

Note: If you cannot join us for our Meet and Greet at Jardinière, please note that the Opera House Café Express, our previous snack and meeting location area near our Premium Dress Circle seating, will still have the deli-style counter open. Light supper fare is available but the table seating is gone due to renovations so it will be difficult to eat anything substantial there standing up.
