TRIO BALKAN STRINGS (Zoran Starcevic & sons) performs original guitar music in an intimate setting at a one-of-a-kind Berkeley home. The trio will perform a fusion of many international styles, including Serbian, Gypsy, Macedonian, Romanian, Mediterranean, Greek, and Oriental, playing Jazz, Gypsy Swing, Classical, asymmetrical rhythms and original guitar interpretations. The result is virtuosic, unconventional, fresh, and spontaneous.
"Trio Balkan Strings’ dedication to the music of the Balkans and central Europe is inspiring. The guitar interpretations of this music are wonderful. Really good!"--John McLaughlin
The performance space, Fifth Street Farms, a virtual farmstead in the oldest part of Berkeley, California, was originally built in 1899 and rehabilitated in the late 20th century. For the past fifteen years, this house has hosted audiences and traveling minstrels to delight in the pleasure of sharing live music in the traditional, acoustic, roots, international, and folk music lineages.
In the informal spirit of house concerts, complimentary wine, beverages, and light snacks will be on offer. Contributions to the communal table are always welcome and appreciated.
TRANSPORTATION: this event is walking distance from the North Berkeley BART. Requests for ride-sharing into the city or the BART station are happily announced during intermission so that guests may coordinate amongst themselves.
