James Tissot: Fashion & FaithJames Tissot: Fashion & Faith

The Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and the Musée d'Orsay, Paris are co-organizing James Tissot: Fashion & Faith, the first major reassessment of Tissot's career in over 20 years.

Sunday October 27, 2019
9:00 - 10:30 a.m.

Legion of Honor
Lincoln Park at 100 34th Avenue (at Clement Street).
San Francisco

This international retrospective will examine approximately 60 paintings, additional works on paper, and cloisonné enamels by Tissot. New scholarship on the artist will demonstrate that even his most ebullient society paintings reveal rich and complex commentary on topics such as nineteenth-century society, religion, fashion, and politics. This exhibition explores his multifaceted career with a fresh perspective and original scholarship and will also question where and how Tissot (1836 – 1902) should be situated in narratives of the nineteenth-century canon.

The Radcliffe Club of San Francisco invites members of the Harvard Club of San Francisco to a private docent tour at the Legion of Honor museum before the museum opens to the public.

Following the tour, you are invited to join the group for no host coffee/lunch at the museum cafe.

Coffee and lunch will begin at approximately 11:30. Afterwards, you may re-visit the exhibits on your own.

This event is a joint event of the Harvard and Radcliffe Clubs of SF.
It is open to members of the clubs and their guests.
