Fathers and Sons by Ivan TurgenevFathers and Sons by Ivan Turgenev

On Sunday, March 15 from 4:30 - 6:30 pm the Harvard Club of San Francisco Reading Group will discuss Fathers and Sons by Ivan Turgenev.

Published in 1862, Fathers and Sons was more than a breakout novel for Ivan Turgenev; it was a milestone for Russian literature and European thought. In its realism and its careful depiction of the rise of nihilism, it anticipates the great Russian novels during the second half of the nineteenth century by Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, and others. Turgenev's masterpiece of generational conflict shocked Russian society when it was published in 1862 and continues today to seem as fresh and outspoken as it did to those who first encountered its nihilistic hero.

The book is available in libraries and online: https://www.overdrive.com/media/4008623/fathers-and-sons-translated-by-constance-garnett-with-a-foreword-by-avrahm-yarmo
