Levi Strauss: A History of American Style - Zoom Video Tour - SOLD OUT!

Levi Strauss: A History of American StyleThe Radcliffe Club of San Francisco invites members of the Harvard Club of San Francisco to a virtual private docent tour at the Contemporary Jewish Museum.

In 1873, at the end of the California Gold Rush, Levi Strauss & Co., named for a Bavarian Jewish dry goods merchant in San Francisco, obtained a U.S. patent with tailor Jacob Davis on the process of putting metal rivets in men’s denim work pants to increase their durability. It was the birth of the blue jean. This exhibition showcases the life of Levi Strauss, the invention of the blue jean, and their iconic place in the history of American style. Featuring over 250 items from the Levi Strauss & Co. Archives, it is the largest public display of the company's archival materials ever assembled.

This event is a joint event of the Harvard and Radcliffe Clubs of SF. It is open to members of the clubs and their guests.

Ron Glait started his journey in education volunteering as a youth leader in the Israeli Scouts, while still in high school. Post army service (obligatory 3 years draft in the IDF) he worked as the Youth Cultural and Leisure Coordinator for the Municipality of Shoham. His responsibilities included creating and coordinating cultural and educational activities as well as training a Teen-Leaders group. It was a natural progression for him to pursue his degree in Education and a Teaching Diploma. In recent years, Ron found a new passion for curation as a form of storytelling and means of education, which led him to choose the M.Ed. in the Visual Literacy Studies program at the Kibbutzim College of Education (Tel Aviv, Israel) where he graduated with honors in 2017.

Ron’s professional experience includes teaching, developing and executing training programs alongside administrative and managerial duties. His last position in Israel was working as part of the management team of the Dance Department at the Kibbutzim College of Education. In September 2018, he started working as an Educator at the Contemporary Jewish Museum in San Francisco, where he can share his love of art and deep knowledge of Jewish culture with the public. In March 2019, he became a full-time employee of the museum and assumed the Tour Coordinator position in addition to his work as an Educator.
