HCSF Salon Talk by Dr. Kevin Stone

“Play Forever: How the science of stem cells, growth factors and tissue replacement can help you drop dead at age 100 playing the sports you love”

We are now in the anabolic era of sports medicine. Instead of letting injuries take time to heal, we add growth factors and recruit stem cell derived repair cells to accelerate healing. The days of taking out torn meniscus and cartilage has been supplanted by inserting new tissues to protect the joint and restore full sports activities.

About the Speaker: Kevin R. Stone M.D. (Harvard Class of ’77) is an orthopedic surgeon at The Stone Clinic and the Chairman of the Stone Research Foundation. He has lectured around the world as an expert in cartilage and meniscal growth, repair and replacement. Dr. Stone has pioneered new ways to address biologic as opposed to bionic (artificial) joint replacement. As an orthopedic surgeon, he has served the U.S. Ski Team, the U. S. Pro Ski Tour, the Marin Ballet, the Smuin Ballet, the modern Pentathlon at the U.S. Olympic Festival, and for the U.S. Olympic Training Center. He was trained at Harvard in internal medicine and orthopedic surgery and at Stanford in general surgery.
