Teague Hill Open Space Preserve Habitat RestorationTeague Hill Open Space Preserve Habitat Restoration

Please join us on a community service habitat restoration project. We'll help maintain Teague Hill Open Space Preserve by removing French Brooms.

French Brooms are invasive, non-native perennial shrubs that displace native plants, degrade soil conditions, and exacerbate wildfire dangers.

This project does not require a long or strenuous hike, but we will be walking on steep and uneven terrain. We will be using tools and hand pulling invasive French Broom. Please see https://www.firesafemarin.org/plants/fire-prone/item/french-broom for more information on this weed. After the project, those that are interested could take a short hike to an old growth redwood.

Please meet us at the top of Summit Springs Road at 10 am.

  • From 280 go west on Woodside Road/Rte. 84.
  • Turn right on Tripp Road.
  • Turn left on Summit Springs.
  • Go all the way to the top – approximately less than or equal to one mile to preserve entrance.
  • Parking is on the street.
  • Please note parking is limited. Carpooling is highly encouraged. There is a park and ride located at the Woodside Rd./84 exit off 280.

To get the most out of your day with us, we recommend that volunteers wear/bring:

  • Sturdy shoes (no sneakers, sandals, or open-toed shoes)
  • Layered clothing: long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, jacket, etc.
  • Gear appropriate to that day's weather conditions (hat, rain gear, etc.)
  • Day pack/fanny pack to carry your gear
  • Lunch (alcoholic beverages are not allowed)
  • MROSD will provide water, snacks, gloves, and all necessary tools
