When the Harvard Club of San Francisco last hosted Dr. Roemer, he shared his story of courage of conviction -- in his role as Mexico's Ambassador to UNESCO, he refused to cast a vote in favor of a resolution that denied the Jewish people’s historic connection to the ancient city, resulting in his dismissal from that post.

Dr. Roemer has since been honored with an appointment by UNESCO as a Goodwill Ambassador for Societal Change and the Free Flow of Knowledge, in recognition of his commitment to promoting free and pluralistic societies as a contribution to peace and human rights.

The Amir Aczel Foundation will be awarding Dr. Roemer their 2019 prize for his contributions in global conversations regarding science, economics and the arts.
