Please join us on a community service habitat restoration project. We'll help maintain Thornewood Open Space Preserve by removing French Brooms.

Saturday, October 12, 2019
9:15am - 2:30pm

Thornewood Open Space Preserve
La Honda Rd, Woodside, CA 94062

French Brooms are invasive, non-native perennial shrubs that displace native plants, degrade soil conditions, and exacerbate wildfire dangers.

This project does not require a long or strenuous hike, but it may involve walking on steep and uneven terrain. We will be using tools and hand pulling invasive French broom. Please see for more information on this weed. After the project, those that are interested could take a short hike to explore Thornewood Park.

Meet at the parking area near the park gate on La Honda Rd/84 at 9:15 am.

Please note parking is limited. Carpooling is highly encouraged. You can find/offer rides using this link:

To get the most out of your day with us, we recommend that volunteers wear/bring:

  • Sturdy shoes (no sneakers, sandals, or open-toed shoes)
  • Layered clothing: long pants, a long-sleeved shirt, jacket, etc.
  • Gear appropriate to that day's weather conditions (hat, rain gear, etc.)
  • Day pack/fanny pack to carry your gear
  • Lunch (alcoholic beverages are not allowed)
  • MROSD will provide water, snacks, gloves, and all necessary tools
IMPORTANT: In addition to RSVP'ing here, you must register as a volunteer on MROSD's project page to reserve a spot.

There are limited spots for these volunteer projects, and they do get full. If you are not able to register on MROSD's website, we cannot get you a spot on the project event if you've RSVP'd here.
