Family Day & Scavenger Hunt at the Farmers Market

Spring scavenger hunt for the kids with a market tour and seasonal eating talk for parents

Make a fun outdoor family day for you and your kids. The Marin farmer's market is a colorful, vibrant, kid-friendly place with lots of activities and food for the whole family.

Starting at 10am, Andy Naja-Riese, AIM’s CEO, will be reading 1-2 books aloud for children of all ages. The central themes of these books will include the importance of pollinators like bees, healthy eating, the history of Cesar Chavez, and celebrating our local farmers and food. Children will sit down on provided mats and experience a 15–20-minute read-aloud session. This event is open to all.

Scavenger Hunt
After the reading, our Diggin’ Education team will lead a mini Seasonal Eating Lesson and Seasonal Scavenger Hunt that will take kids on a guided adventure through the farmers market. Kids will learn about seasonal eating and then go on a scavenger hunt to locate seasonal items throughout the farmers market, working together in a group and talking to their local farmers about seasonal produce. The scavenger hunt will be tied to a kid-friendly, healthy and seasonal recipe and parents will have the option to purchase some of the ingredients so they can make the recipe at home. The hunt will conclude in the same spot and at the same time as the market tour. This activity maxes out at 20 kids.

Market Tour
Step into the vibrant world of the Marin farmers markets with a curated tour led by AIM's CEO, Andy Naja-Riese. This exclusive experience offers a unique opportunity to explore one of the Bay Area’s most renowned farmers markets. With Andy guiding the way, you'll meet passionate farmers and vendors, learn about the journey of their produce from farm to market, and gain insights into the significance of supporting local agriculture. Throughout the tour, Andy will share his extensive knowledge of the local food ecosystem, offering a behind-the-scenes look into the workings of AIM and the vision behind creating thriving, sustainable markets.

The tour, reading and scavenger hunt will all take place at the Marin farmers market at the Marin Civic Center in San Rafael. Parking fills up quickly, so be sure to give yourself plenty of time to find a spot and walk from your car to the market. There is a SMART train station near the corner of Civic Center Drive and McInnis Parkway for those looking to use public transport and skip the search for parking. The reading will take place in the Diggin’ Education tent (a bright green pop-up tent). Exact location to be determined—stop by the info booth (a white tent with the AIM logo right by the market entrance) for exact information on where the tent will be located. The Diggin’ Education tent is also where the scavenger hunt and market tour will begin.
