Because the pandemic threw a spotlight onto deep systematic problems within healthcare, venture fund investments in health companies are expected to exceed $15 billion in 2023. Come hear some of the most informed minds in the venture world discuss the issues and opportunities. This will be a panel discussion with ample opportunity to ask questions and chat with the principals.

In this VC panel, we will discuss the following:

  • Investment thesis of all the VCs.
  • What is going on in the current environment?
  • What technology/area are they excited about.

Panel Speakers

alice-zhengAlice Zheng has been a women’s health enthusiast throughout her career spanning global health, clinical medicine, and the private sector. She is currently a Principal at RH Capital, a Rhia Ventures fund, leading investments in innovative women's health companies across the life sciences, digital health and consumer health. Alice was previously a women’s health practice leader and management consultant at McKinsey & Company, where she served biopharma, diagnostics, global public health and private equity clients across R&D and commercial strategy topics.

Earlier in her career, Alice’s passion to improve lives for the underserved led her to work in East Africa and Asia in reproductive health and family planning. As a clinician, she focused on women’s health globally and published articles examining healthcare in low-income countries.

Alice holds an MBA from Harvard Business School and MD and MPH from the University of Michigan, where she was a Dean's Merit Scholar. Alice is a frequent speaker on FemTech and women's health innovation and holds advising and mentoring roles with multiple women’s health accelerators and forums. She has also been a patient in many women’s health areas including infertility, termination, and pregnancy complications.

Green Sands was ranked in top 5 investors in the U.S. by Fortune Magazine in 2022. Green Sands has invested in iconic companies like Spotify, SpaceX, Airbnb, Commure, ArsenalBio, and Synchron. Headquartered in Silicon Valley, Green Sands has offices in Zurich, Doha, Dubai, and Singapore. Reema also specializes in strategic advisory for governments in their branding for Foreign Direct Investment. Green Sands’ vast political and diplomatic network makes the company one of the top strategy advisors to governments. Since 2018, Reema has been an ambassador to the United Nations for Women in Science & Technology on behalf of Royal Academy of Science International Trust. In 2017, Reema was awarded the 21st Century Icon Award in Finance, backed by the LSE and CNBC. In philanthropic endeavors, in 2019, Reema started the "Green Sands Prize" which honors an individual or organization with the potential for profound impact. Reema is a trustee of the SETI Institute and chairwoman of their Endowment Committee. SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) was previously a division of NASA. She also funds the SETI Forward Award for the Carl Sagan Research Center. This award supports undergraduate students interested in careers in SETI and astrobiology by matching these students with scholarships from organizations engaged in the field.

With nearly $800m under management, Define is the largest fund that invests only in early stage digital health, partnering with founders across payer, provider, employer, life science, and consumer verticals. Before Define, Chirag was an operator at high growth digital health startups Imagine Health and Castlight Health, where he led Product, Strategy, and Analytics. Prior to that he was a healthcare private equity investor at the Carlyle Group focused on late stage buyouts and an investment banker at Morgan Stanley.
