Community Service Event:  National AIDS Memorial Grove in Golden Gate Park

Join us for a morning of gardening at the National AIDS Memorial Grove in Golden Gate Park, to help care for, protect and maintain the Grove for the thousands of people who visit the memorial throughout the year.

The Grove is a 10-acre memorial for those impacted by AIDS. For 32 years, volunteers have gathered each month to preserve the Grove as a space for hope, healing, remembrance and togetherness.

After signing in at 8:30am, a breakfast of coffee, juices, bagels and fruit will be provided to all volunteers. At 9:00am, a National AIDS Memorial board or staff member gives a brief introduction with historical background, followed by an explanation of the day's various projects. Volunteers then break into teams and work under the supervision of a gardener and team leaders. At 11:45am, work ends, and volunteers gather at noon for "Circle Time" for announcements, acknowledgements, and a moment of silence in honor of lives lost to AIDS.

Friends, families and kids of all ages are welcome. All volunteers must sign a release before the event. Gloves and tools are provided. Please wear sturdy shoes. Open toed shoes are not permitted. Sunscreen, insect repellant, a hat or cap, and sturdy clothes (jeans and a long-sleeve shirt) are also recommended, to protect from prickly plants and a few areas with poison oak.
